Polly Pocket Mattel Issued Award Metal Statue A Decade of Polly Pocket 1 Of 1
This is a Mattel issued one of a kind recognition of a decade of Polly Pocket, possibly for service in the production or success of Polly Pocket. It has metal (NOT plastic or resin) cast figures of Polly Pocket from 1999 and from 2009 on a metal base which is attached atop a wooden base. 1999 Polly has her signature high ponytail and is wearing jeans while 2009 Polly has her long straight hair in layers and is wearing a kicky skirt/dress. Cast into the metallic base is the year 1999 and 2009 and “Polly Pocket” along with a flourish of flowers as in her logo, tracing a decade in the life of this iconic doll. Of note, 1999 was the first full year that Mattel owned Polly Pocket outright, acquiring Bluebird Toys – the original Polly Pocket license holder – in late 1998. So this marks the first full ten years of Polly Pocket under Mattel. The wooden base is lined with felt on the bottom and is in fine condition. There does seem to be a space on the front side of the wooden base which held something attached with transparent epoxy. Possibly a name plate for the person or employee being recognized. That is no longer attached or included. Judging from the collection this item comes from, it may be for someone who worked in the production of this doll for over a decade. I have other one of a kind Mattel employee items (some already listed) from this collection which also reveal at least a quarter century of work in the production of iconic Mattel dolls in their El Segundo, CA facilities.
